Ostrich

To drawing something, it is of course necessary to figure out where everything should go on the paper – the relative sizes of the objects in the scene and how they all fit together. So it was that when I drew this ostrich I was quite surprised to discover just how small an ostrich head is compared to the bird’s body, and just how thick the legs are compared to the neck.

Now it is entirely possible that I have overplayed these size differences in this sketch and that I am just making excuses for a poor drawing! Obviously I have considered this possibility, but having then looked at many photos of ostriches I have concluded that any distortion in this drawing is quite minimal. At least, that is my claim …
