2 CVs

I was rather taken by this scene – although to be honest most views containing a 2CV will tend to catch my attention! I had expected to have to concentrate on getting the cars to look right, but in the event it was the poplar trees that caused me the most grief – to the extent that rather unusually this is my third attempt to get this picture right. Normally I’m not that tenacious – a painting either works or it doesn’t. I think it was probably because of the the citroens that I kept trying in this case! Rather annoyingly, the cars were slightly better in one of the earlier versions of this painting.

One of the key lessons I have learnt when doodling is to make sure you “quit whilst you are ahead”. So in this case, when I found that I had a version of this painting which had acceptable cars and credible trees, it was definitely the moment to stop …
