Robinia Tree

This tree sits in front of our house, and whilst I often notice and appreciate its bright green / yellow foliage it doesn’t normally stand out from the surroundings. However, the other day when I saw it standing nonchalantly in front of some rather dark and angry storm clouds, I was rather taken by the scene.

As usual, I’m not convinced that I have fully captured that dramatic image in this painting. However, I was sufficiently pleased by the way the watercolours were actually creating the effect I was trying to achieve that I persevered and completed the picture. The self-referential easel was of course never there – that is just a whimsy that I introduced at a moment when I assumed the scene that I was painting would lack any drama and therefore be rather dull and boring!
