It seems that almost everywhere you look in Cologne you can see the twin towers of the cathedral and the glass roof of the main train station. Of course there are places from which neither landmark is visible, but there don’t seem to be as many such places as one might expect. So, true to form, both were visible from the window of the penthouse flat we were staying in – even at night since like any city there is a night-time glow to Cologne that makes a clear skyline visible after dark.
This drawing was done using charcoal, which seemed to me the natural medium for such a view. I hadn’t paid much attention to the texture of the paper I was using beforehand, but once I started drawing I noticed it quickly enough! However, I decided on balance that the resulting pattern in the drawing adds to the overall ambience of the drawing.
