Bruges – Heilige Geeststraat

I don’t recall ever seeing a road in the UK named “Holy Ghost Street” – nor indeed anywhere else in my travels. However, rather than declare this to be an unusual name for a road and assume that this is a particularly Belgian thing, I am quite willing to admit that perhaps I just have not yet travelled widely enough or been attentive enough to road names before to notice this particular roadname elsewhere.

Whatever the name of the road, this view like so many others in Bruges is very pretty and varied, displaying the calm assurance of a town that has survived the centuries and is still going strong.

I had chosen this view as being suitable for a “linocut” style drawing, although it was done on my trusty drawing app rather than actually dealing with the messy business of cutting real linoleum and then using a printing press! As with many of my drawings I think that more detail than necessary has crept in, so the image is busier than would be expected in a real linocut. Nevertheless I am quite pleased with the result.
