Chartwell was the family home of Winston Churchill, who as well as being a renowned wartime leader was also a prodigious artist – indeed many of his paintings are on display at the house and in various outbuildings in the grounds. I think that here I have managed to pick a view from a window in Chartwell that Winston didn’t paint – at least I hope so as I’m not sure my efforts would come out well in any comparison!
As always there is a lot of room for improvement in my brush strokes, but at least I have managed to pull off some of the watercolour effects I was trying to achieve, and in the end I think this picture passes a crucial test – do I feel as if I am really looking through a window when I view the painting? ~ At least, that works for me …
