Plaça Nova

Despite the name. Plaça Nova (New Square) is rather old, as are several of the buildings around it. However, this view is looking resolutely the other way at the newer buildings, in particular the building of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia, which sports a large Catalonian themed frieze designed by Picasso (which I have rather inexpertly reproduced in the middle of the painting!).

As I have previously discovered (see St Peter’s College), if you group into a picture several buildings of markedly different architectural styles then the ensemble looks more harmonious if presented in monochrome. At least, that is my excuse for having another go at monochrome watercolour. The crimson hue used here was chosen on a whim, but I think it works so I’m happy with that. Some of the lines aren’t straight which I’m less happy about, but in the end the style of each building is clear and square is shown as I remember it, so maybe a few wonky lines don’t matter that much …
