We all know autumn well – it is something that occurs every year. This happens to be an autumnal view along the Pilgrims Way as it crosses Reigate Hill, although it could be almost anywhere at this time of year. This also happens to be a picture that I painted four years ago, although it would have looked pretty much the same whenever it was painted – unless during the intervening years my painting style has changed, perhaps even improved?
To be honest, I’m not sure that this painting would have looked that different if I had finished it yesterday. Perhaps over the years I have learnt to stop painting or drawing sooner than I used to, and I think that this picture is somewhat overworked so maybe it would have been a bit better – at least I hope so!
