Wet Flowers

Having been advised to try watercolour paints on posh proper cotton watercolour paper, I decided to have another go at the “wet on wet” approach, where the paper is dampened before the paint is applied.

It turns out that the amount of water is quite critical! My first go at what I thought would be an easy composition of flowers in a vase turned into what might be politely called a muddy mess. I decided that this was probably due to the paper being too wet, and so for my second go the paper was merely damp. I went perhaps a bit too far the other way, in that I then had to add a bit more water strategically to get the proper spreading effect. However, the end result shown here seems to have worked surprisingly well, at least by my modest standards …
