Bunting

This is a view along Church Street in Hereford, looking towards the cathedral, which is where I spotted this bunting whilst visiting the city in early June. I’m not really sure why the bunting was up – there had been celebrations for the 80th anniversary of VE Day a few weeks earlier, so maybe the flags were left over from that. In any case, regardless of the reason why the bunting was strung across the road, it did rather jolly the street up, so I thought that was worth capturing in a painting.

Despite the many things that went wrong with this painting (some of which are still wrong!) I think overall it is okay because it shows something of the exuberance of the street decoration, even if the road below is not exactly crowded or buzzing. Hope you agree …
