Slightly different from my previous Art Deco designs, this is a painting of the interior of a former house – now the van Buuren Museum – in Brussels. The house is full of some wonderful period art, but what particularly caught my eye during our recent visit was the light in the stairwell.
Now, I have always supposed that the overriding aim in any art is to show others what the artist sees or feels – in which case this painting is a definite “fail” as it seems to emphasise the stairway and the Mondrianesque stained glass window rather than the central hanging light-piece. However, I was quite pleased with the perspective of this picture, a rather better angle to see the stairwell from than any of the awkwardly angled photos that I based this painting on.
