Normally I consider dandelions to be weeds, and if they appear in my lawn I try to get rid of them. When these plants grow elsewhere I tend to ignore them, but in this view along the Gozo coastline they were so abundant and colourful that I had make an exception and pay those dandelions the attention they deserved!
I presumed that the easiest way to get the vibrant colours needed for this scene was to use acrylic paints, and I think that the resulting painting supports this choice. I also decided to apply the paint with a palette knife, to see whether that was any easier than using a paintbrush. It turns out that, rather than being easier, applying paint with a knife presents just as many challenges as a brush, albeit the difficulties are somewhat different in each case.
