Walled Garden

A walled garden is usually a haven of peace, and often contains a variety of colours and textures to entertain the eyes. I think I have captured a bit of each of these aspects here, but I am sure that more could have been done.

The choice of watercolour as a medium helps with the peacefulness of course – I find you have to work hard to get strong, exciting &/or threatening colours using this type of paint. However, in this painting I think the colours are a bit too laid back and washed out – the colours in the original scene really were a lot stronger. Having said that, I am really quite pleased with the looser style I have managed to create here. All this is relative – I am sure that others could have managed a much looser painting still – but for me this is progress!

In case you are curious, this garden is in Dunster village.
