This unlikely pair are to be found in front of the Hungarian Parliament Building in Budapest. The rather casual and lanky Attila Jozsef in the foreground was a very popular local poet writing between the 1st and 2nd World Wars. The more classical equestrian statue behind is of Ferenc Rakoczi, who fought against the Habsburgs at the start of the 18th century.
Having taken an artist’s licence to omit the crowds and the traffic (Budapest is a busy city which attracts a lot of tourists!) this picture is now of a tranquil and pretty scene, which is what I was hoping for. Jozsef’s face is darker than I would have liked, but otherwise I’m quite pleased with this drawing.
