Sooner or later I am sure that my watercolour paints will do exactly what I want them to do, but in the meanwhile I have to be content if a watercolour painting bears even a passing resemblance to the image that I have in my head! This sunset is no exception – I was quite pleased with the palm trees but the rest of the scene lacks the drama that I had hoped it would have.
The scene depicted is the view from the western ramparts of the Portuguese/Dutch fort at Galle in Sri Lanka, where the ever popular “end of the day” show had gathered locals and tourists alike. The real sunset was spectacular – shame the same can’t be said about this painting!
